We recently published a comprehensive white paper on the various materials that YUPO can be bonded to. Here is a link to the article.

And finally, this is a truly informative article written by Chris A Paschke, CPF GCF of Designs Ink that appeared in 'Picture Framing Magazine'

“Yupo Part 2: Mounting Synthetic Papers”

It's always best to test with a small sample instead of a final piece of artwork to see that the glue meets your needs.

I am wanting to print a large Lino block print and want to know if I can use yupo paper and what type of ink would work?

Yes, you can certainly use YUPO. YUPO paper is a synthetic, non-porous, and waterproof paper made from polypropylene, which makes it quite different from traditional papers. While it has a smooth surface that can take ink, there are some challenges when using it for relief printing, such as with linocut.

Here are some ink recommendations for printing on YUPO:

1) Akua Intaglio Ink (or Akua Liquid Pigment)
-Water-based but designed for non-absorbent surfaces.
-Dries by absorption into pigments rather than evaporation.
-Slow-drying but works well on synthetic papers.

2) Cranfield Caligo Safe Wash Relief Ink
-Oil-based but washes out with soap and water.
-Can take days or even weeks to dry on Yupo but provides strong adhesion.

3) Speedball Professional Relief Ink
-Water-miscible oil-based inks that may dry faster on Yupo than traditional oils.

Here are some tips for Printing on YUPO:
-Use Less Ink: Too much ink may smudge or take forever to dry.
-Consider a Fixative: A spray fixative or acrylic medium might help set the ink once printed.
