Hi,

My question is rather broad but I am wondering if it is possible to sustainably make paper of recycled clothing seeing as we are on the cusp of a clothing waste epidemic and ongoing deforestation affecting our atmosphere and eco system. I know that it is possible to make paper of clothing, I am simply asking if on a larger scale it would be a viable and sustainable solution to a global dilemma. Would it even be profitable and viable for paper mills. Thanks.

Hi Courbyne, One can make paper out of most any fiber and some companies do produce papers using old jeans and shirts. The issue usually involves demand and price and where those two variable meet. But aside from wood fiber papers the cotton used to produce many of today's fine art 100% cotton papers have a great eco story. Here's a good place to start:
