Ask an Expert - Forum > stonehenge spiral pad vs. stonehenge light

I'm shopping for the perfect paper for colored pencil drawings. I'm torn between the spiral pads and the Stonehenge light. The art supply suggested the latter over the former if the medium is colored pencils. However, I'm a little hesitant to make that option given the weight of the paper (50 lbs as opposed to Spiral which is 90lbs). So, which one's really ideal for colored pencils? I sometimes use odorless mineral spirits to blend the colors but most of the time, I usually just burnish. Thanks.

Hi James - Both the 135gsm and 250gsm Stonehenge papers are excellent for colored pencil. As you're using mineral spirits the heavier weight paper will be more resistant to buckling, but the best way to determine this is to run some tests. We'd be happy to send you some samples. Simply send us an email to info [at] legionpaper.com with your shipping address and we'll slip those in the mail for you.
