What are the best coated papers for letterpress metallic ink? Looking for a great florescent white cover stock around 300lb. Thoughts?

Hi Jen,

It depends on how you define coated. We've had fantastic results letterpress printing using metallic inks on Lettra, Arturo, Savoy and Colorplan.

Were you seeking a mica coated metallic paper (such as Cocktail or Stardream) to be used with metallic inks? Or a gloss coated paper?

I have tried printing metallic inks on Lettra as that is my favorite paper but the metallic silver just looks gray with no shine at all. I have tried double striking but didn't love that result either & didn't help much. I don't want a full blow foil shine, but somewhere in between? I do love the result of metallic ink printed on metallic coated paper, but metallic paper is not right for a current project. I would just love to identify either a technique to achieve this result on Lettra, Arturo or Colorplan or a suggestion for another matte, white paper that would give a bit of shine? I guess I'm just looking for the highest quality matte, solid (probably coated) paper that shows off the metallic ink a bit more(& can be laser printed on). If "matte" and "coated" don't ever go together, than I guess a glossy white paper with a weight around 110lb. fyi, my project involves laser printing a watercolor effect and then letterpress in silver metallic ink & on a quest for the best paper option, whew.
thanks so much for any suggestions!!

The paper you should try is Colorplan.

Other printers who have used this with metallic inks say it is one of the best papers for this process. Happy to send you some samples to test. Shoot us an email to info{at} legionpaper.com with your shipping address and range of colors you're seeking.
