Ask an Expert - Forum > Paper for room dividers

I'm working on replacing the paper/cloth on an oriental style room divider but I'm having a hard time finding out which type of paper I should use for this project.

Rice paper is really fragile (and if I use that, I think it will rip easily and my work will go to waste). From my research, bamboo and natural fibers like jute and rattan are durable. But I don't know where to go from here, would someone have some advice?

What is the size of the piece you are trying to back? Do you want translucency - back lit? Or natural light?
The reason I ask for the size of the piece is the possibility of a need for roll stock to do this project.

I would need 3 sheets of 16" x 69". Translucency would be ideal, it makes it more authentic. Also, I might consider painting a design on it (acrylic).
