Ask an Expert - Forum > weights for Rising Museum Board

We are beginning to stock Rising Museum Board for our letterpress customers. People here want to know if we can show weight in pounds and gsm (like we do for cover stocks) in addition to points on our website in the paper description. Can you help me with this?

Here are the rough calculations:

1-Ply = 250gsm = 92lb Cover
2-Ply = 500gsm = 185lb Cover
4-Ply = 1000gsm = 370lb Cover
8-Ply = 2000gsm = 739lb Cover

Thanks, this is very helpful. Could I also get a measurement in points for the 2 ply and 4 ply rising Musueum Board and for Lettra 110# cover and 220# Cover?

Rising 2-ply = 30pt
Rising 4-ply = 60pt
Lettra 110lb Cover = 300gsm = 21.5pt
Lettra 220lb Cover = 600gsm = 40.3pt

Hello,

I've found another website that shows values that are different than the ones posted here. Can you please verify your calculations regarding the conversions to gsm from points. Here is the website in question: http://www.lssdigital.com/digital_finishing/html/paper-weight-conversion-tables.html . The figures are substantially different. I understand that there may be differences in manufacturers but this is a bit much.

Cover to gsm weight conversion is correct. However, the points to gsm is substantially off. Which is right? What am I missing?

Hi Juan,

The gsm to lbs conversion is a standard one. There's more information, and a converter here:
http://www.legionpaper.com/knowledge-base/paper-measurements/how-do-you-convert-paper-weights.html

For many of our papers, there is no standard gsm to points converter. Two papers can weigh the same (gsm) but can vary greatly in thickness. For example, a textured cotton mouldmade 300gsm paper may be significantly thicker than a smooth machinemade 300gsm paper.

Let us know if you need more information.

Just adding the caliper in inches to complete the conversion for those who wish to have that info:

1-Ply / 15PT / 0.015” / 250gsm
2-Ply / 30PT / 0.03” / 500gsm
4-Ply / 60PT / 0.06” / 1000gsm
8-Ply / 120PT / 0.12” / 2000gsm
