Ask an Expert - Forum > Velata sheets with no deckled edges?

I have used Velata paper exclusively for bookbinding for the last five years. I recently received an order of large heavy weight Velata sheets from Talas that have cut rather than deckled edges. The color and texture are slightly different as well. Has this paper changed or did the supplier send me the wrong paper?

Hi Cindy, thank you for your post. Both flavors of Velata are manufactured with deckle edges, however, the mill occasionally does a special making of various grades without the deckles. Would you be able to photograph the label and email this to me to marc@legionpaper.com?

Your question about differences in surface quality is an excellent one. As these papers are produced in small batches on mouldmade machines, there will always be slight differences between makings. Having said that, in your email to me with the photo of the package label, I'll reply back with instructions to send me a sheet of the paper so we can compare this to our lab samples.
